A Brief Encounter

sudden meet at the bus stop.
sudden though not unexpected.
probably a little unwanted.
nervous pleasantries exchanged,
we let the silence stretch.
strange how it seemed more comfortable than anything said.

kohled eyes, top knot & a touch of pink on her lips –
nothing really new since the last time I had seen.
yet as the sunset coloured wind chased the dandelion seeds,
a familiar face looked less familiar to me.

suddenly she dropped her guard
and evoked the nostalgia of a childhood long gone.
a little unsure, I acknowledged some & skipped the others with lukewarm gestures.

we decided to part sooner than usual.
secretly guarding the question we wish we could answer –
are we really done forever?
or feelings, though undemonstrated, still linger?
