am like the flickering light of the candle in your hand.
Holding myself against the blistering wind outside.
Lighting the way as you slowly weave through the darkened corridors of your scarcely populated mansion.
And providing the much needed assurance
That everything will be fine.

I am like the unwavering light
From the lamps illuminating a thousand houses.
And fiercely protected by their apprehensive inmates.
As the air grows dense with their silent longing for men fighting patriotic wars unaware of their fates.

My presence can be felt in the secret pining of lonely lovers.
While some revel, some veil
Their new tricky bittersweet guest.
And there are still others who continue to admire the rose undaunted by its thorns.
For most hearts love to believe
That one day their feelings will be taken care of.

I am present, always and everywhere.
Some acknowledge, some don’t and some find me foolish too.
But my strength they can’t deny.
For even when the flame has ceased to exit
And the possibilities have turned dim,
Somewhere deep down, they still believe
‘Every end has a new beginning’.
